I love color and the emotions it creates. A canvas filled with color can take the viewer to a different world. Other times, a small accent of unexpected color on a work of art creates excitement and delight.
I am invigorated by the first pops of Spring color. There should be a word for that specific feeling you get when you see a glint of purple from the first crocus or the yellow lion's mane flower. Then, the daffodils burst forth. After the long cold winter, we are rewarded for our perserverence with the miracle of each flower. I am mesmerized.
My recent paintings are based on feelings towards nature. It is a celebration of the magnificent colors in the world that inspire awe. It is not an attempt to exactly duplicate the natural world. With brush on canvas, I conjure the sensation of a perfect moment, gazing at a shimmering landscape, seeing colors that could not possibly be real, but knowing they are.
I hope these works bring wonder and joy. I aim for the viewer to stop and look deeply, to notice something new or see something familiar a little differently, in order to perceive the world or ourselves in a new way.
